A sad day all around. I’d figure I’d comment on both of these stories as they are related. I grew up in the sixties and seventies when both the film and the man were at the height of their popularity. Iconic figures. My dad showed me kodachrome slide shows, and then showed me The Johnny Carson Show. No need to go on and on about the old days, things change and clearly it makes little sense for Kodak to continue making a difficult to produce product that the public has abandoned.
My issue is that some of the most memorable images ever shot were created on kodachrome film. I’ve yet to see any digital images that rival the lushness and warmth of kodachrome film, and to make matters worse, The Conan O’brien Show sucks.

My dad was an Ektachrome slide guy. Now I’m having to individually scan and then fix the color shift on what I not-so-affectionately call “My Childhood.” Back in the 60s and 70s, Exta was cheaper. I remember a few years ago finding a box of Kodachrome slides in my in-laws cabin in Colorado. They were from the late 40s or early 50s, I think, based on the way the subjects were dressed. They looked like the day they were shot. Wishing now that Dad had ponied up for the Koda.
I agree with you about many things, but I gotta say, I like the Conan. And Triumph the Comic Insult Dog.

It’s safe to say for all of us who love Kodachrome that yes, indeed, it is going to be hard to say goodbye. I suppose I better finish up shooting all this film stock I have in my fridge before they stop processing it completely.
I’m sorry, but Ed Mcmahon dying does not make me sad. He lived a good long life. Memories of his off camera hearty chuckle and single syllable responses, my grandmothers million dollar sweepstakes dreams shot to hell and the excruciatingly low point of my Hollywood Tour of the Stars bus ride featuring an in depth analysis of McMahon’s apparent fascination with Terracotta Clay pots are memories that while tolerable bare no great significance in my life. Sorry to disappoint you but Conan O’brien, This man makes me laugh. He is brilliantly funny, intelligent, and always on. Just for that, I’m sending my Kodachrome direct!
Awesome comment James. I’ll have to give Conan another shot. Probably a stretch to put Mcmahon in the same light as kodachrome, but I was desperate and his death was timely. I’m more nostalgic for the era in general (my youth) and I’m mostly sad about having to Tivo the late night shows as I’m too tired from my kids to stay up late.
